Level 1: Basic support, no extra pay
Level 2: Moderate needs, +£2–3/hour
Level 3+: Complex care, +£3–5/hour
Levels help set a fair baseline while still allowing families and carers to agree on the final rate. It ensures carers are compensated for skill and responsibility, and families know what to expect, making pay transparent, fair, and flexible.
Can carers choose the level of care they work?
Yes! As part of the HouiHive, you can choose your workload week by week:
One week, you might work with Level 1 clients needing basic support.
The next week, you could take on Level 3+ clients with more complex needs.
This flexibility helps you manage stress, prevent burnout, and maintain balance, while still providing families with safe, high-quality care.
What are the requirements for elderly care jobs?
Requirements depend on the care level:
Non-medical care (Level 1–2): Assisting with daily living, companionship, meal prep, and mobility. Recommended training includes safeguarding, manual handling, and first aid.
Medical or complex care (Level 3): Administering medication, following care plans, and supporting complex health needs. Requires nursing or clinical qualifications.
